Skype for iPhone adds video calling

Starting today, iPhone users can install a new version of Skype. With the new app, video calling will be possible. The popular VOIP software is available in the Apple App Store.

With the app, users of the iPod Touch can use video calling as well. Video calling will not only be possible over WiFi, but also over your iPhones 4G and 3G mobile data connections. With Apples own app FaceTime, that is not possible. FaceTime only works over WiFi. The new functions get a grand introduction, with a promotion video:

The software of the Luxembourg-based company will not make everybody as enthusiastic as us. Calling for a Skype account to another Skype account is, just like on the desktop computer, free. The more people use the service, the less providers can bill their clients for calling. Skype uses a data connection, while providers are trying to cope with increasing demand for mobile internet. Skype with video calling will only further increase the demand.
