The latest mobile phone, including an iPhone, can easily cost hundreds of euros. That is a lot of money and not everyone has that on the shelf. A mobile subscription with phone can be a solution. But what exactly is a subscription?
Telephone subscription
A phone subscription is a contract between you and a telecom provider including Ben, hollandsnieuwe, KPN, Lebara, T-Mobile, Tele2, Vodafone or Youfone. You pay a fixed monthly amount and in return you get a number of call minutes, SMS and data. If you buy a mobile phone with a subscription, you also pay a fixed monthly amount for your device. This is called a deposit or deposit. Instead of paying a lot of money up front, you pay off your mobile phone in installments. It's called an installment plan.
Apayment phone
You own the mobile from day one but you have to pay it off every month. If you want to cancel in between you have to pay a penalty. In the end you always pay for your mobile phone, 100%. With a subscription, you only pay in monthly installments instead of upfront.
The installments are paid for as long as the contract lasts. If you have a 1-year contract, you pay every month. That is 12 times. Do you have a 2-year subscription, then you pay, you guessed it, 24 times that amount. Shortening those terms is unfortunately not possible. So paying for a phone in 3 times is not possible.
Free phone
Let's get something straight: there is no such thing as a free phone. If something advertises as 'free', you always end up paying for it. Hiding costs, for example in a mobile subscription, doesn't mean your phone is free. A subscription with free phone means you will pay for it yourself every month. Do you really want a cheap phone subscription with free phone consider a midrange phone with phone plan.
Cell phone without BKR check
If you buy a mobile phone with a subscription, this is seen as a loan. If you borrow more than 250 Euros, a check will be made beforehand to see if you can afford it. This is called the income test, sometimes called a BKR check. Not everyone wants this. You can avoid this by choosing 'No BKR check' in the search screen for a mobile phone. You will then buy a subscription without a BKR check. That way you can still pay for that iPhone in installments without BKR.
So if you want to pay your favorite smartphone in installments, first find it above and then click on 'With subscription' or 'Abo'. And if you don't want a BKR-check, then check 'No BKR-check'. You will then only see a phone plan under 250 euros. That's it!
