    Xiaomi 12X product details

Within the 12 series, the Xiaomi 12X is placed just half a step beneath the Xiaomi 12. The device features one generation older processor, and wireless charging is missing. Still, that results in a pretty significant price drop. But not only that makes the 12X worth considering.

    Older does not imply worse

The processor is undoubtedly the most significant difference between the Xiaomi 12X and the regular 12. The latter has the newer Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor. This 12X has to make do with an older generation Snapdragon 870. That difference is mainly expressed in the applied transistor size. With the Snapdragon 870, they are 7nm in size, and inside the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, they are 4nm. In general, the rule is; the smaller, the more powerful. But now it comes; the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 has serious overheating problems. Qualcomm has fixed that in further generations (the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1), but that doesn't help the 12. And the 12X, fortunately, does not suffer from it. So yes, it is an older processor, but one that performs longer at full power. Older does not necessarily mean worse.

    Same screen, same camera

Furthermore, there are many similarities between the Xiaomi 12X and the Xiaomi 12. Including the highly rated display with its high 120Hz refresh and color display. And with a size of just under 6.3 inches, it can also be called reasonably compact. So operating it with one hand is no problem. On the back of the 12X, we find a triple camera system consisting of a 50MP primary camera, a 13MP camera with a 123° wide angle lens, and a 5MP telemacro camera. With the latter, you shoot extreme close-ups. Usually, we are not so keen on this because manufacturers typically use a small 2MP sensor, but with 5MP, you can shoot much sharper images. Unfortunately, you can't use optical zoom with the 12X, just like the 12. You can, however, zoom digitally.

    Main Xiaomi 12X specifications

    • 6.28" DotDisplay with crisp FHD+, smooth 120Hz and colorful AMOLED display
    • 50+13+5MP camera with 123° wide angle, macro lens and 8K video
    • 32MP in-display selfie camera with night and portrait mode
    • Snapdragon 870 processor at 3,2GHz delivers excellent performance
    • 8+128 or 8+256GB of non-expandable RAM+storage memory
    • 4500mAh with wired 67W fast charging
    • Dual SIM support for two nano-SIM cards
    • Stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos sound provided by Harman Kardon

    Above average charging speeds

Inside the Xiaomi 12X, we find a 4500mAh battery. Especially considering the screen size, this is fine. Charging can be done with up to 67 Watts, which is above average. Unfortunately, wireless charging is not available on this device. You have to choose the Xiaomi 12, which can do that. On the other hand, Xiaomi does not skimp on accessories and delivers the data cable and charger in the box. We can also report that this device has dual speakers with Dolby Atmos sound tuned by Harman Kardon, an infrared transmitter to control your TV, and you can insert up to 2 SIM cards. All in all, a complete device that, despite its many features, is still very compact.
