BlackBerry clamshell: software is already there

Rumours that BlackBerry was about to launch a clamshell-phone were there already, but now emulation software has surfaced that can be used by developers to create applications that support a double screen.

Some rumours say the handset will be numbered 9760. De emulator that has been leaked shows that the phone will have to screens. When you fold the phone open, you'll see the usual screen with, presumably, the usual BlackBerry interface. When you fold in, you'll see a screen on the outside, that possibly informs you about the time and the numbers of received messages, among other things.

Tradition

If the software is authentic, it means that RIM is making plans to break tradition again, and bring a clamshell to the market. The company sold monoblock phones for years, but came with a slider phone recently, the Torch 9800. Yet, it is not the first clamshell created by RIM. In 2008, the Pearl 8220 was introduced. That phone is not available anymore.
