This has the advantage that calls are not taken when a button is accidentally pressed. Also, this shape offers more protection for the display, significantly reducing the risk of scratches.
Most folding phones have a functionality called 'Active Flip' that allows you to answer or end a call by flipping the phone open or closed. The term 'folder' is also sometimes used for a clamshell phone.
