Companion app
Due to the lack of a display, it is always necessary to be connected to a phone. Most manufacturers have created their own companion app but some also sync with Google Fit or Apple Health.
Some smart rings require a subscription to use them. The Oura is an example of this. With yet others, you are not subject to monthly fees. This sometimes makes the purchase price a bit higher.
