RIM: QNX on BlackBerries with dualcore processor

QNX, the operating system on BlackBerry's tablet PlayBook will also be used in BlackBerry smartphones. The news was brought by RIM co-CEO Mike Lazardis.

Under the hood, QNX has nothing to do with the current operating system on RIMs flagships, BlackBerry OS 6. That OS runs on the Bold 9780 and the Torch 9800. QNX was developed separately, and was taken over by RIM this last year.

The first opinions on Blackberry's tablet running QNX are quite positive. Accoring to RIM, the PlayBook is much faster than its man competitor, the Apple iPad. Moreover, the graphics of QNX are fine, while BlackBerry OS is often criticised for its basic design. It would therefore be a natural decision to take the opposite of Apple, and bring the tablet OS to the smartphone.
