Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max fails durability test

Zach from JerryRigEverything tests many phones on his YouTube channel. One of these tests is the infamous bend test, and the recently released Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max does not come through that unscathed.

One of the new features Apple announced for the iPhone 15 Pro Max is the titanium body. Or rather, the bezel. Well, it's just the outer part of the bezel. Anyhow, according to Apple, this makes the phone stronger and lighter. Especially that lower weight is noticeable.

But does that make the 15 Pro Max extra sturdy? That's what YouTube channel JerryRigEverything tried to seek out. Rarely do phones fail his brutal durability test. Here, he tests the scratch resistance of the display, the sides, and the overall toughness. You don't want your phones to break when you sit on them.

Bend test

The method is the same every time; he places the phone between his index fingers and thumbs and starts pressing as hard as possible. An exercise that poses no problem for many phones. If a phone does bend, it ends up in the corner of shame, along with phones like the Google Pixel Fold, OnePlus 10 Pro and the Asus ROG Phone 5.

While the Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max doesn't bend, it doesn't pass either. The JerryRigEverything video shows that the back glass breaks even when applying little force. Those who just bought one might not like what they are seeing.

iPhone 15 Pro did succeed

Interestingly, the smaller iPhone 15 Pro does pass the bend test. It, too, is made of titanium, but possibly the smaller design offers more internal rigidity than its bigger brother.

During the iPhone 15 Series announcement, Apple said that replacing a back cover is cheaper this time. Previously, a new back cover cost between $499 and $549; now, it's just $199—a small consolation for such an expensive device.
