Marvell develops tri-core 1,5 Ghz processor for smartphones
The sky is the limit for the quick development of mobile processors. Now that we're used to 1 Ghz chips in our mobile phones comes the next step: more cores, higher clock frequency.
Marvell puts three cores on a chip, one of which takes care of the graphics. The performance of the new processor is impressive. 1080p movies in 3D should be in reach of this muscleman. Moreover, it supports USB 3.0.
Available for manufacturers right now
Should we wait a long long time for the marvelous features? No. The processor is finished, and available in small amounts for manufacturers. That doesn't mean that we'll have the first handsets next month. This price of the chip will now be high anyhow. But is does mean that development of phones with this tri-core chip will start this year. It should be possible for manufacturers to have the phones on thee market in 2011.
