Apple has surprise; smaller Dynamic Island for iPhone 17 Pro
According to a source who works for a screen protector manufacturer, the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max will feature a smaller Dynamic Island than their predecessors. Reports suggest it will be up to 25% smaller.
Apple has been applying the Dynamic Island since the iPhone 14 Pro. A hole for not only the selfie camera but also the Face ID components. In addition, they built an innovative system around it where notifications and widgets are displayed. And even though this made the challenged notch a thing of the past, it is still a big hole. Something that as of the iPhone 17 Pro may be about to change.

Ideally, Apple would like to place all Face ID components below the screen, but the technology is not there yet. In the meantime, we welcome the narrowing of the gap only too gladly. According to reports, starting with the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max, the Dynamic Island will be about 25% smaller; from 2.0 to 1.5 inches wide.
Waiting for the Keynote
As is typical of Apple, only the Pro models will benefit from this; the entry-level iPhone will likely have to wait another year. It remains to be seen whether the Dynamic Island will actually be shrunk; Apple will announce the iPhone 17 series on Tuesday 9 September at 7:00 p.m. Central European Time. We'll find out then whether they succeeded or not.
