End of screen crease: Oppo Find N6 claims ‘Zero-feel’ breakthrough

Oppo announced the Find N6 at an event in China. The book-style foldable features a wrinkle-free screen and a generous 6000 mAh battery. The device will be available in stores in China from March 20, with the rest of the world to follow later.

The Oppo Find N6 is the first foldable where the crease is not felt when unfolded. Even though this crease has become less visible in recent years, it always remained tactile. This detracts from the premium feel and increases the risk of scratches. Due to their softer top layer, foldable screens are naturally vulnerable to damage from fingernails or sharp objects.

With the Find N6, Oppo focuses on eliminating the tactile crease, a traditional weakness of foldables

The Find N6 is now the first foldable with a Zero-feel crease. The crease is therefore not felt, altho it is still present. Testing by TÜV Rheinland showed the screen remained flat even after 600,000 folds. However, it remains to be seen how the screen holds up in practise when exposed to the elements and dirt. It should be noted, however, that our Samsung Flip 4 can no longer be opened fully and appears warped as a result.

Large 6000 mAh Battery but Just Short of Record

At just 8.93 millimetres thick when closed and just 4.21 millimetres open, the Find N6 is also very thin. Yet inside there was room for a 6000 mAh battery. Oppo applies a silicon-carbon battery to make this possible. These offer higher energy density in a smaller package. Oppo is not breaking a record with this: the foldable with the largest battery is still Honour's Magic V6, which contains a battery with a capacity of 6660 mAh.

Such a high battery capacity is more of a necessity than a luxury with an 8.12-inch inner screen. As a result, battery life will be similar to regular smartphones but will not exceed them.

Normally, the best cameras are not found in a foldable. This is due to limited space. Still, the Find N6 features an impressive camera system. It consists of a 200MP main camera, a 50MP ultra-wide-angle, and a 50MP telephoto camera with 3x zoom. Oppo is assisted by Hasselblad and a separate colour sensor to capture colours as accurately as possible.

The Oppo Find N6 will be in stores in China starting March 20 in Stellar Titanium and Blossom Orange; a European release date has not yet been confirmed. Available colours are Stellar Titanium and Blossom Orange. Exact prices have not yet been announced. A stylus has also been created specifically for the foldable: the OPPO AI Pen. This allows you to both operate the device and create content. Users must purchase the stylus separately; furthermore, there is no storage slot in the phone's housing. Losing it is therefore a real risk.
