Leaked render hints at new design for Sony Xperia 1 VIII

A render of the Sony Xperia 1 VIII has appeared, revealing a striking design. Instead of the usual pill-shaped camera island, a different design is visible. Will Sony finally change the design of its Xperia series?

You would almost forget that Sony still makes smartphones. Xperia models don't get much attention, despite receiving faithful annual updates. However, the range has shrunk considerably over the years. The upcoming Xperia 1 VIII may stand out more than its predecessors due to a new design.

On the back, the three cameras are no longer stacked vertically but in a triangle. This is according to leaked renders from a case manufacturer. These manufacturers often get early access to new phone designs to have their products ready on time. Apparently, things still go wrong there sometimes.

Possibly biggest Xperia update in years

If rumours are true, the Sony Xperia 1 series will receive its biggest update in years. Whether more changes are coming besides this new camera layout remains to be seen. We don't expect the price to be much different. Sony prices its models fairly high, targeting a select group: content creators.

For the purists: Xperia 1 VIII also comes in white

Sony is also one of the few still including the familiar headphone jack. We see it at the bottom in the photos. Also notable is the selfie camera. Sony stuck with bezels above and below the screen for a long time, but this design features a hole-punch selfie camera. This means the camera is now inside the screen instead of above it.

Whether it actually comes to that will be seen when Sony unveils the device. The Sony Xperia 1 VII was announced in May 2025. At the time of writing, we may only have to wait another month.
