Leaked One UI 9 animations confirm extra-wide Samsung Galaxy Z Wide

Several animations of the as-yet-unannounced Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 can be seen in the One UI 9 code. Since the extra-wide foldable does not yet have a definitive name, it could also be called the Fold Wide, Wide Fold, or Fold 8 Wide. The newly surfaced images clearly show how wide the screen will be.

Samsung is expected to announce an additional foldable during its usual fall launch of foldables. In addition to the Fold 8 and Flip 8, we then expect this Z Wide, or whatever it will be called. This model will have a wider body that creates a regular tablet screen after unfolding. The current Fold series generally has a square screen.

The drawings shown here were published on SamMobile and show the screen in its unfolded state. We see a home screen with app ikons. In another sketch, we see the app drawer in addition to the home screen. Strikingly, the layout is largely similar to that on smartphones, despite the wider screen ratio.

While these images do not provide the full picture, they do make us wonder if Samsung is taking full advantage of the extra-wide aspect ratio. Incidentally, the home screen and app drawer largely match what Samsung does on its Galaxy Tab tablets.

Samsung usually launches its new foldable devices in the fall, altho July is also a possibility because that is also when the Fold 7 was released. We therefore expect this Wide as well as a new Fold and Flip during this Unpacked event. Whether Samsung will also release a new TriFold is still unknown; we hear remarkably little news about that. Let's hope that this is not a prelude to the scrapping of this model. After all, we could use some more foldable designs.
