Future Apple iPhone Fold compared to Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7
2026 is likely the year Apple will present its first foldable iPhone. Several dummy models of the iPhone Fold (or Ultra) have surfaced, but none have been seen alongside Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 7.
But today is our lucky day because images appeared on X showing the iPhone Fold and Samsung Fold 7 together. It is still a dummy iPhone, but something is better than nothing.
Altho the iPhone Ultra (Fold) looks wider, it is less pronounced in practise. The device is primarily much shorter (height) than the Fold 7. This does raise concerns about the useability of the front screen. For example, little screen space remains when typing a message.
Apple ignores race for thinnest body
Furthermore, it is notable that Apple is clearly not trying to make the thinnest foldable ever with its first-generation foldable. The device is significantly thicker than the Fold 7, which at 8.9 millimetres doesn't even compete for the title of thinnest foldable ever.
Hopefully, Apple will use that thickness for a larger battery. With its iPhone Air, Apple missed the mark due to the small battery. The company may not make that mistake again.

Meanwhile, other manufacturers are also working on foldables with such a wide aspect ratio. Huawei previously released the Pura X Max and Samsung also seems to be working on an extra-wide foldable. Should Apple's idea of a foldable catch on, other manufacturers will undoubtedly follow suit.
