Honour beats Samsung: Magic V5 is thinner and more dust-resistant

Samsung still has some competition. Even before Samsung announced the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Honour unveiled the Magic V5. At 8.8 millimetres thick, the Magic V5 is thinner than any of Samsung's devices. Honour's foldable is also more waterproof and dustproof.

The Honour Magic V5 is the direct successor to the Magic V3. Chinese do not like to use the number "4" because it is said to bring bad luck. The V5 is even thinner with a thickness of only 8.8 millimetres. That is exactly 0.1 millimetre thinner than Samsung's expected Fold7.

In addition to being thin, the Magic V5 is also highly resistant to the elements. The device has an IP58/59 rating where the V3 still had an IPX8 rating. That means protection has now officially come for dust. For water, protection has increased slightly.

Much larger battery

Despite its thin profile, the Honour device has a large 5820 mAh battery. Honour achieved this by using silicon-carbon technology. For comparison, the Samsung Fold7 reportedly has a mere 4,400 mAh battery.

The Honour Magic V5 boasts the most comprehensive specs and features, including a Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, up to 1TB of storage, and a 5,000-nit outdoor screen and 7.95-inch indoor screen. The round camera system includes a 50MP main camera, a 50MP ultra-wide camera, and a 64MP telephoto camera. It's hard to imagine a more comprehensive phone anytime soon.

Premium device, premium price

Needless to say, the price is high, though not too bad compared to other foldables. Prices range from about €1,070 for the 12/256GB model to €1,300 for the 16GB/1TB version.

When we will find the Honour Magic V5 in stores is still a little unclear. The device may have to be imported by a third party. They will also want to earn something from it, so count on a starting price of €2000, just like the V3.
