Exclusive: Fairphone Gen. 6+ with more memory and new colour coming soon
Disappearing white Gen. 6 hints at upcoming announcement
According to a reliable source, Fairphone will soon release an upgraded version of the Gen. 6. The Gen. 6+ is expected to have more RAM than the original model and come in a new colour.
The source bringing us news about Fairphone Gen. 6+ today is the same one that first tipped us off about the existence of Fairphone Gen. 6. That was in May 2025. Now Fairphone believes the time is right for an interim update. This comes in the form of a RAM upgrade from 8 to 12GB. Storage remains 256GB.
Incidentally, this kind of mid-cycle plus model isn’t unusual for Fairphone: in 2020, the company released Fairphone 3+ as an improved version of Fairphone 3, altho that was six years ago.
More RAM is useful for running many apps simultaneously and smoothly. AI apps like Google Gemini, pre-installed on the device, also benefit from this.
Increasing RAM is a notable move these days. There is currently a severe shortage of memory chips due to the AI boom. We therefore fear for the expected price, which we have not yet been able to obtain. Fairphone Gen. 6 with 8GB RAM launched for €599 and, at the time of writing, costs just €516.
Besides a RAM boost, Fairphone plans a new colour for the sustainable device. The 12GB version will be released in Horizon Black, Forest Green, and a new colour: Cobalt Blue. This means a Cloud White version is unlikely. In fact, the white Gen. 6 is currently no longer available separately, so it may be phased out.
The question remains when Fairphone will announce Gen. 6+. We see the white Gen. 6 has been unavailable separately since Tuesday, July 28, so the answer might be: soon. Unfortunately, our source has no further information on that at the moment.
Notably, our source did not provide an embargo: such a publication ban until an agreed date is common for truly secret information, so its absence is usually a signal that the announcement is near.
Buy Fairphone now or wait?
What does this mean for those considering a Fairphone? If you don't need 12GB, you can safely go for the current Fairphone Gen. 6; it has already dropped significantly in price since introduction and may be discounted further after an announcement. Those who want the extra room for apps and AI should wait for the announcement, though the price of Gen. 6+ remains a guess.
