Exclusive: Fairphone Gen. 6+ to be announced August 18; here’s how much it will cost
Danish online store reveals price range via EAN number
According to retail information reviewed by our editorial team, Fairphone will announce the Gen. 6+ on Tuesday, August 18. We can also report the price for the first time, which is the bad news: it appears to be higher than the standard Gen. 6. Thanks to a leaked spec list from @evleaks, we are now almost certain about what you will get for that money.
This is the third time in three weeks that we’ve brought you exclusive news about this device. At the end of July, we were the first to report that Fairphone is working on a Gen. 6+ with 12GB of RAM and the new Cobalt Blue colour. Last week, the first images followed. Now we also know when it’s coming: Tuesday, August 18.
We’re not yet sure if the device will be available for purchase that very day. In any case, it won’t be long, as the first online store is already adding the Gen. 6+ to its systems. And that brings us to the price.
Fairphone Gen. 6+ (Likely) Price
Based on the EAN number—the barcode stores use to register products—we found the Fairphone Gen. 6+ on a Danish online store. There, the device is listed in the system for 5,121 Danish kroner, converting to about €685. Important note: Denmark charges 25% VAT, while the Netherlands is at 21%. Adjusting for that, the price comes out to about €665 for the Dutch market.
Moreover, such a bare, non-rounded amount looks like an automatically converted price from a product feed. We therefore view this as a price indication, not a definitive fact. But this mention is not alone: usually well-informed French leaker billbil-kun recently mentioned via Dealabs a suggested retail price of €649. Both signals point in the same direction: somewhere between €650 and €690.
For comparison: the Fairphone Gen. 6 launched last year at €599 and, at the time of writing, fluctuates between €519 and €527. For the Gen. 6+, you’ll likely pay more than €130 more than what the standard Gen. 6 currently costs. This seems to confirm the fears we expressed back in late July: the global shortage of memory chips caused by the AI boom translates into a higher price.

As for what you get for that money, there is hardly any need to guess anymore. Usually reliable leaker Evan Blass, better known as @evleaks, published the complete specification list for the Gen. 6+ on X this week. The only differences are in bold: a Snapdragon 7s Gen 4, 12GB of RAM, and Android 16.
That chip is expected to deliver about 7 percent faster computing and graphics performance than the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 in the standard Gen. 6 and will feature a faster NPU for AI tasks. Nothing is official yet, but since multiple sources report the same, you can cautiously assume this to be true.
What else do you get for the extra cost? Virtually nothing, as the list confirms: the display, battery, and cameras are identical to those of the standard Gen. 6, as is the 256GB of storage. The calculation is simple: you’re paying that extra €130 mainly for 4GB of additional RAM and a faster chip, plus the new Cobalt Blue colour if you like it.
Do You Need 12GB?
The question remains whether you should pay that extra cost. For every-day use—think WhatsApp, banking, navigation, and taking photos—8GB is more than enough: Android neatly parks apps you’re not currently using in memory and brings them back within a second. You will only notice the extra 4GB when doing heavy multitasking, playing demanding games, or using AI features like Gemini that run on the device itself. The average Fairphone buyer chooses sustainability and a long-term update policy, not top-tier specs.
Buy Fairphone Now or Wait?
If you recognise yourself in that every-day usage, you can confidently go for the current Fairphone Gen. 6. It has already dropped significantly in price since launch and may be discounted even further after August 18; so it might even pay off to wait until that day. If you do want the extra headroom for apps and AI—or just that blue colour—you’ll only have to wait a few more days until Fairphone itself provides all the details.
There’s another group for whom August 18 is a date to remember: owners of the Fairphone 3 and 3+. This month software support for these devices ends. If you’re still using one, now is a logical time to choose a successor: the current Gen. 6 at the best price, or—starting Tuesday—the Gen. 6+ with more RAM.
