Modern design

Alcatel also participates in the notch-hype and brings us the Alcatel 3 (2019). At the top of the 5.94 inch HD+ screen we find a U-shaped cut-out. This is meant for the 8 megapixel selfie camera. By applying a notch instead of sliding the entire screen, the screen-to-body ratio goes up to an impressive 89.6%. Roomy enough to come along today. Alcatel opts for a colourful finish with subtle colour gradient and glossy finish.

Dual camera with face unlock

Rear dual 13 + 5 megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash and real-time background blur. With the latter you shoot portrait photos with blurred background. Underneath the camera is a fingerprint scanner for quick access. Unlocking is also possible by facial recognition, or 'Face Key' as Alcatel calls it. Inside the Alcatel 3 2019 an entry-level Qualcomm processor is used; the Snapdragon 439. This can come along fine and also has access to 3 GB of RAM memory, which can be called neat in this price range. The storage memory is limited to 32 GB, altho there is also a slightly larger 64 GB version. Fortunately, the memory can be expanded with up to 128 GB.

Also striking is the battery, which has a large capacity of 3500 mAh. We don't expect you to be left with an empty battery soon. Unfortunately, there is no quick recharging. Fully charging takes more than 4 hours. Alcatel also applies Android 8.1 from the box but promises an update to Android Pie (version 9.0), altho at the time of writing it is still unclear when that update will be available.
