Cat is a brand name of Caterpillar; a US manufacturer of heavy vehicles such as excavators. They do not make the Cat phones themselves; they lend their name to Bullitt Group. These also make phones for Land Rover, JCB and Kodak. All models are robust and mostly water- and dust-resistant, making them suitable for the construction site.

Cat Phones history

Cat's first phones appeared in 2013 and new models have been announced every year since. Most of Cat's phones are smartphones that use Android. However, there are also Cat feature phones that use its own operating system. In 2018, it first released a feature model under KaiOS which comes from FireFox OS. The advantage of this is that an app store is available from which apps can be easily downloaded.

With the announcement of the Cat S60 in 2016, Cat applied a FLIR thermal camera in a mobile phone for the first time. This allows you to see the temperature of objects on the screen. The FLIR thermal camera was improved each time in successors to the S60, giving the camera a permanent place in the product range.

Forthcoming end to Cat phones

In early 2024, it was announced that Bullit Group had filed for bankruptcy. The company had reportedly been in financial trouble for some time and was struggling to reorganise. This puts an end to ruggedised Cat phones for the time being.
