What is cheap for some is unaffordable for others. Above, we list smartphones with a single device price of up to 300 euros. Should that be too much, you can reduce this amount by choosing a lower maximum amount in the filter on the right. Should your budget be just a little more, you can of course increase it.

Always cheaper

Smartphones have become increasingly affordable in recent years. The novelty is gone and thanks to mass production, smartphones have become available to almost everyone. You can even get a smartphone from as little as 100 euros, and very occasionally even below that.

Bloatware

It is mainly models from China that are around the 100-euro mark. Models from, for example, Xiaomi, TCL and POCO. Wages are lower there and often certain apps are pre-installed. A manufacturer earns from this 'bloatware'. Often, these apps can be removed afterwards but not always.

With subscription even more advantageous

Is your phone subscription expiring? Then consider buying a smartphone in combination with a subscription. Then you don't have to pay the whole purchase amount at once in advance but spread it out over the term of the subscription. In effect, a loan. And if that amount is less than €250, you will not receive a BKR registration and you do not have to disclose your income/expenses.

Mind the software policy

A smartphone should preferably last as long as possible. This applies not only to the outside, but also to the inside; the software. It needs to be maintained, especially when security problems reveal themselves. An update is then desirable.

Manufacturers of cheaper phones in particular therefore do not like to promise long-term updates that they have to spend time and money on. Before buying, pay attention to whether a manufacturer says anything about promised updates. A new Android version is nice, but at least two years of security updates are sometimes much needed.

Costly is expensive?

Cheap smartphones are often cheap in that they are made of plastic and that they are not very comprehensive. The former is not such a problem, the latter sometimes is. The simpler the hardware, such as the processor, the less fast. That makes this category not very suitable for gaming.

For everyday use, it's a completely different story. Calling, browsing the internet, and sometimes shooting a photo is often no problem. Just make sure there is enough storage memory. Sometimes that is expandable with a memory card, in which case there is no problem. If not, consider a model with slightly more storage memory.
