OnePlus 9 Pro product description

The OnePlus 9 Pro is the top model for the first half of 2021 and should put an end to the notion that OnePlus phones do not have a good camera. Hasselblad's assistance was brought in and OnePlus put all kinds of high-end components in the phone, as always. But does that justify the higher price?

The OnePlus 9 Pro is the successor to the 8 Pro, the 8T never got a Pro version. For an ultimate flagship, the price is still not too bad. OnePlus has managed to keep the entry-level model below the magical 1000-euro mark. The OnePlus 9 Pro is mainly about its camera. It was developed in collaboration with Hasselblad. This originally Swedish company did the colour calibration, amongst other things. The well-known distortion of the ultra wide-angle lens has also been fixed. By using the Freeform Lens, lines always stay straight, even at the edges. Also, only with this Pro version you get an 8MP telephoto camera with which you can zoom up to 3.3x optically. Furthermore, expect plenty of manual settings options, 8K video and a special nite mode. OnePlus is finally catching up with the latest iPhone, Galaxy and Pixel. It does not really surpass them, but this is a huge improvement.

Anyone who has ever held a relatively new OnePlus in their hands knows how beautiful its screens are. This OnePlus 9 Pro does not disappoint. This is an LTPO screen with the benefit of being able to switch the refresh rate all the way down from 120 to 1 Hz. That's what the 9 Pro does when there's no motion. The less often the screen has to refresh an image the less energy it consumes. Further impressive about the screen is the high peak brightness of 1300 nits, the high colour fidelity and the sharp resolution. It doesn't get much better than this. New this year is Always On Display (AOD) with which the screen can always show the time and/or notifications. This does have its impact on the battery life. And with a capacity of 4500 mAh, we would have liked it to be bigger.

Fast charging, no matter how

We take it for granted by now; fast charging of your phone. OnePlus is truly a pioneer in that area and once again it surpasses itself. Wired, you pump a whopping 65W in your OnePlus 9 Pro; with just 15 minutes you're ready to go all day. Wireless is also possible and that is traditionally slower. But at 50W, the 9 Pro still outpaces some competitors, even when allowed to charge wired. The Galaxy S21 Ultra for example, only uses 25W. The downside is that in order to charge wirelessly at the highest speed, you have to buy the special Warp Charge Wireless 50 charger. That one does have the advantage of having 2 coils so you can place the 9 Pro both horizontally and vertically.
