The Samsung Galaxy A54 is an "awesome" 5G phone with substantial improvements over its predecessor. You wouldn't say that if you look purely at the specifications. And that's where we come in. Then, we also try to find another word for "awesome" that Samsung keeps using.

Nearly the same, yet better

Like its predecessor, the Galaxy A54 5G is waterproof. And like its predecessor, it features a large 5000mAh battery. Also, like its predecessor, the A54 features a triple camera system with optical image stabilisation. And yet, there are substantial differences. On the face of it, that seems to be the reduction in resolution from 64 to 50 megapixels. But as so often, appearances are deceptive. Because the new 50MP primary camera performs better than its predecessor. How can that be?

Camera with nite photography

This is mainly because pixels have become 25% larger, 1.0 versus 0.8µm. By capturing more light per pixel, the A54 shoots much better-exposed photos. By merging four pixels into one, the result is a four times as sensitive pixel. All of this results in better pictures in the dark. It is, therefore, not surprising that Samsung speaks of a high-performing nite camera in its press release. Several tests also show the camera is better, especially in low light.

More than just a camera

However, a phone is more than just a good camera. Fortunately, the Galaxy A54 5G also features a good screen thanks to a bright 6.4-inch AMOLED panel with a smooth 120Hz display. These are all high-end specifications you would expect to find on a much more expensive phone. Pan octa-core processor usually provides processing power with 8GB of RAM. There is also a 6GB variant, but it doesn't seem to be offered here, which is only good news. The more RAM, the more apps it can hold in memory, and the faster the device is. There are also two memory versions: one with 128 and one with 256GB. Both versions can be expanded with a microSD card up to 1TB.
