Samsung Equips Galaxy A08 with 6,000 mAh Battery from A07 5G

Samsung has quietly unveiled the Galaxy A08. The entry-level 4G model features a 6,000 mAh battery and a more dust-resistant body, both of which were previously only available on the A07 5G.

On the outside, the Galaxy A08 is virtually indistinguishable from the A07.

Will the Galaxy A08 come to the Netherlands?

The Galaxy A08 with model number SM-A085F appeared on Samsung Ukraine’s website. Whether the device will come to the Netherlands remains to be seen. Samsung would first have to release a 5G version of the A08. Phones without 5G are hardly sold here anymore. But even then, it is uncertain whether we will see it here: after all, the A07 5G was not officially released here either.

What is new compared to the Galaxy A07?

The Galaxy A08 does not bring much that is new. The larger battery (6,000 vs. 5,000 mAh) is mainly new for the 4G entry-level model: the Galaxy A07 5G already had that 6,000 mAh battery. In addition, the housing is now dust-resistant (IP64 compared to IP54 previously). Much has remained the same, including the HD display, the 50+2MP rear camera, and the 8MP selfie camera.

Samsung does not specify which chip is inside: the product page only mentions an octa-core processor running at 2.2 and 2.0 GHz. According to earlier leaks, that is the same MediaTek Helio G99 found in the A07. Furthermore, according to retailer listings, the battery charges at 25W and you can choose between 64, 128, or 256GB of storage (expandable via microSD up to 2TB). Samsung promises six years of Android updates. In this price range, that is still the strongest selling point.

We also hope the price will be the same. The Galaxy A07 was not officially released in the Netherlands, so there is no Dutch price point to compare it to. Samsung Ukraine is asking 10,699 hryvnia for the 128GB model, which converts to about 210 euros including VAT. Samsung has recently shown a tendency to raise its prices due to the increased cost of memory chips. An ironic detail: Samsung itself is one of the world’s largest memory manufacturers, so it also profits from those same more expensive chips. With a phone in this price range, every ten euros counts.

We will keep an eye out for you to see if this new Galaxy A08 is released here as well, and if so, at what price. In the meantime, feel free to cheque out the other Galaxy A models if you are looking for an affordable entry-level smartphone. If you want 5G for less money, cheque out Motorola’s Moto G series or Xiaomi’s Redmi devices, which offer 5G for around 150 euros.
