Xiaomi 18 Pro (Max) Official: Coming to Europe, but with Smaller Battery
Xiaomi has announced the Xiaomi 18 Pro and the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max. Both models feature a large display on the back. Unlike the Xiaomi 17 Pro, Xiaomi has confirmed that the new models will be launched outside of China. You will be able to purchase the devices here with a warranty and without the hassle of an import process. However, there does seem to be a trade-off: the European version will likely have a smaller battery.
For now, the Xiaomi 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max are only available in China. During the Snapdragon Summit, Xiaomi did confirm that a global launch will follow later this year.
The 18 Pro is powered by the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, while the larger 18 Pro Max gets the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. Both devices have a 200MP main camera and a telephoto camera with a periscope lens (3.2x zoom) that also reaches 200MP. The wide-angle camera remains at 50MP.
Rear screen gets its own AI apps
The screen on the back (the Magic Back Screen) returns between the cameras and measures 2.7 inches on the 18 Pro and 2.9 inches on the 18 Pro Max. A new feature is that you can create your own mini-apps for it using Xiaomi’s AI assistant. You can also display timers and reminders on it.
Privacy screen that detects onlookers
It’s not just the back that draws attention; the front screen has also been updated. This is specifically intended to ward off prying eyes: the 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max feature a privacy screen, just like Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra. This can narrow the viewing angle of the entire display or parts of it. Anyone trying to peek from the side will see only black. The difference from Samsung: Xiaomi automatically activates the feature as soon as the front camera detects an onlooker, or when you are in a crowded place.
Xiaomi 18 Pro in Europe: smaller battery, price unknown
In China, the devices start at CNY 5999 (roughly 720 euros) for the 18 Pro and CNY 6999 (roughly 840 euros) for the 18 Pro Max. The version coming to Europe later is not exactly the same. According to @kacskrz on X, it will have a smaller battery: 6000 instead of 7000 mAh for the 18 Pro and 7050 instead of 8500 mAh for the 18 Pro Max.
Less battery for the same price would be a poor trade-off. Looking at the previous generation, it is unlikely that the European price will be lower: the Xiaomi 17 Ultra cost from CNY 6999 in China, while in Europe it was 1499 euros. If you want the largest battery, you can import the Chinese version, altho you will lose the warranty and incur import costs.
