Apple idea about a new smaller simcard has been approved by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute. With some small adjudgements from Motorola and RIM we can expect this new simcard in future mobile phones.

European Commission: microUSB standard for charging
On instigation of the European Commission, the European standardization organisations CEN-CENELEC and ETSI have decided that microUSB will be the standard for charging cellphones.
