Escape Google: Find the Best Mobile Phones with /e/OS
Are you fed up with the tech giants’ constant hunger for data and want to regain control of your own digital life? A mobile phone running is the perfect solution for anyone who takes privacy seriously. This operating system is completely ‘de-Googled’, but still lets you use your favourite Android apps. Whether you’re a sustainability pioneer or a security expert, we’ll help you find the perfect match in the world of privacy-friendly smartphones.
Why Choose a Phone with /e/OS?
Most smartphones send your location and browsing behaviour to external servers thousands of times a day. With /e/OS (part of the Murena family), this stops immediately. You get an open-source alternative built on Android, but with all Google services replaced by privacy-friendly alternatives. The big advantage? You retain the ease of use of Android, but without anyone looking over your shoulder.
The Murena Fairphone: Sustainability meets Privacy
At present, the Murena Fairphone (Gen. 6) is the undisputed leader in this category. It combines the fair production and repairability of Fairphone with the watertight privacy of /e/OS. This isn’t just any phone; it’s a statement against the throwaway society and the surveillance economy.
What makes the Murena Fairphone Gen. 6 unique?
- Completely De-Googled: No Google Play Services, no Google Maps tracking, but MicroG for app compatibility.
- Modular design: Is your screen broken or your battery running low? You can easily replace the parts yourself.
- Future-proof: Thanks to powerful hardware and long-term software support, this device will last for years.
Who is /e/OS designed for?
You don’t need to be a programmer to use /e/OS. The interface is intuitive and the ‘App Lounge’ allows you to install almost all standard Android apps. What’s more, the built-in privacy score for each app alerts you immediately if an app (such as Facebook or Instagram) tries to access an unnecessary amount of data. It’s the ideal choice for the conscious consumer who doesn’t want to compromise between technology and ethics.
