All Fairphone mobile phones
Fairphone is a Dutch company that has been manufacturing fair-trade mobile phones from conflict-free materials since 2013. The smartphones are partly modular, so that parts can be replaced when they are faulty or when you wish to upgrade them.
Sustainable design
Fairphone focuses on four key areas: sustainable design, fair materials, good working conditions, and reuse & recycling. By designing a phone that is modular, can be repaired by the user and has a long lifespan, you minimise your impact on the environment.
Fair materials
Mobile phones contain many different materials, ranging from common to rarer ones. Examples of the latter include tantalum, tungsten, gold, cobalt, gallium and indium. Most of these come from mines in conflict zones or where working conditions are suboptimal or even pose health risks. Fairphone is working with The Dragonfly Initiative to map out the supply chain for all 38 materials used to make the Fairphone 2 and to identify areas for improvement.
