The realme 9 Pro+ is part of the comprehensive 9 series. It is easy to lose sight of it amongst all its brothers and sisters. Too bad because it has a lot going for it. What exactly is something we are going to find out here.

Confusing naming

Typically, the entry-level model in a series is the simplest, a Pro is more comprehensive, and a Pro+ is the most comprehensive. But with realme, everything works a little differently. It is true that this 9 Pro+ has the most powerful processor, the MediaTek Dimensity 920 5G, but it does not have the biggest and fastest screen. That's what the realme 9 5G has. Personally, we find it all a bit confusing but we are going to try to explain it as best we can further on.

6.4-inch 90Hz Super AMOLED

A 6.4-inch display, that's what you'll find on the front of this realme 9 Pro+. That can be called fairly compact. Realme applies a colourful panel based on the Super AMOLED technology. Images are refreshed 90 times per second which provides reasonably smooth transitions and animations. The screen has an integrated fingerprint scanner that is so sensitive that it can also register your heartbeat. At the top left, we see a round punch-hole that houses the 16MP selfie camera. This shoots razor-sharp self-portraits. The Clear Fusion algorithm adds even more sharpness and polishes away unevenness.

Mainly the primary camera shines on the back

Turning the 9 Pro Plus over, we see a 50MP main camera. For this, Realme uses the Sony IMX766 sensor with built-in image stabilisation. That's nice because you can still shoot sharp images with it at dusk. There is another 8MP camera with a 119° ultra wide-angle lens and we have another 2MP macro lens. The latter is funny for extreme close-ups but proves little useful in practise because of its low resolution. Video is shot in up to 4K and therefore has enough detail and sharpness, even in the dark thanks to the large camera sensor.
