Oppo Find X9 Ultra photos leaked: Giant camera module takes up all the space

Ever since Oppo announced that it will release the yet-to-be-announced Find X9 Ultra in Europe, we have been particularly interested in news about this device. This time, a photo has appeared showing the round camera module. And it sticks out quite a bit, as the images show.

Not only does the camera module protrude significantly, the flash is also not completely flush with the housing. In predecessors of the Find X9 Ultra, it was still integrated into the housing instead of protruding. The logical thought is that there simply wasn't enough room in the housing, but we also don't rule out that it's a design choice.

The round camera module also requires significant space and protrudes considerably. This was also the case with the Find X8 Ultra, but there Oppo still used a bevelled edge. This is less the case with the Find X9 Ultra. According to rumours, this camera module consists of:

  • 200MP main camera with 1/1.12" large sensor
  • 200MP telephoto camera with periscope lens for 3x zoom
  • 50MP ultra-wide-angle
  • 50MP telephoto camera for 10x zoom
  • 3.2MP multi-spectral colour sensor

This is an impressive list, but the sensor size of the main camera is smaller than the 1-inch camera sensors found in some other smartphones. The difference between 1/1.12" and a 1" sensor looks marginal, but in hardware terms, a 1" sensor is 25% larger in area than Oppo's 1/1.12" variant. The larger the image sensor, the more light the sensor absorbs, resulting in greater dynamic range and better low-light performance. As a result, the Oppo will struggle against models like the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, which does feature a 1-inch image sensor.

Oppo reserves Snapdragon 8 Elite for Ultra; MediaTek powers rest of X9 series

Other specifications presumably include a 6.82-inch display, a large 7050 mAh battery with 100W fast charging, and the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. That processor choice is striking given the rest of the Find X9 series: in other models, Oppo uses a MediaTek chip. Earlier, the model was rumoured to be equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 9500e.

Interestingly, the flagship model has to settle for a smaller battery capacity (7050 mAh) than the Find X9 Pro (7500 mAh), presumably because of the physical space claimed by the huge camera module.

The actual source of the photos above, the Chinese fenibook on Weibo, has since taken the images offline. This did not stop several publications from obtaining the photos. Whether these actually match the production model will be revealed when Oppo officially announces it, likely in early April.
