Samsung Unveils Galaxy A37 and Galaxy A57: What’s Different

Today, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy A37 and A57, the latest models from its popular Galaxy A series. While Samsung boasts that the phones offer great value, the company failed to disclose exact prices in its press release. It's time for us to investigate.

Update 17:00 Prices are slightly lower at €529 and €429. Still €50 more expensive than before.

You can't fool us; we see right thru the marketing talk. The Galaxy A57 gets a European starting price of €550. That is €70 more expensive than the A56. The Galaxy A37 will also be €70 more expensive, bringing it to €450. What is so "Awesome" about that, as Samsung puts it in its press release, is completely unclear to us.

Can a new lick of paint help the newly announced Galaxy A57 and A37 match the success of their predecessors?

Both phones feature a slightly modified appearance with thinner screen bezels for the A57, higher water resistance, and a slightly modified camera island with translucent glass. The fact is that much has remained the same, from the screens to the cameras. Unfortunately, the battery capacity is also the same as last year. With 5000 mAh batteries, both Galaxy A models cannot compete with Chinese brands where silicon-carbon batteries have thousands of mAh more and can therefore last longer.

Samsung still hopes to win over consumers by rolling out six years of OS and security updates. This makes the A57 and A37 certainly future-proof, altho it remains to be seen whether you can and want to use a phone for that long.

Samsung says both phones will be in stores starting April 10. The Galaxy A57 will be available in Awesome Navy, Awesome Grey, Awesome Icyblue, and Awesome Lilac. The Galaxy A37 will be available in Awesome Lavender, Awesome Charcoal, Awesome Graygreen, and Awesome White. Expect to be able to pre-order the phones at any moment.
