Apple iPhone Ultra delayed until 2027? This insider thinks so

Will Apple's first foldable iPhone not be released at all this year? Until now, it was assumed that the iPhone Ultra would be announced in late 2026. However, an insider now believes that Apple is pushing this back to early 2027.

An Apple supplier has informed shareholders that the third quarter offers several new opportunities, and that some will be carried over to next year. This comes from the CEO of Largan Precision, which supplies camera lenses for iPhones. It is unclear whether the CEO is referring to the iPhone Ultra or other products.

There have long been rumours that the iPhone 18 will not be announced this year but in early 2027. It is quite possible that Enping Lin is referring to the entry-level iPhone 18 and not the iPhone Ultra. Another possibility is that the iPhone Ultra will be announced in September 2026 but won’t be available until later.

Apple shakes up iPhone release schedule

It is certain, however, that Apple’s release schedule this year and next year will look different than what you’re used to. The iPhone line-up is more extensive than ever, featuring not only the entry-level model, the Pro, and Pro Max, but also an Air, -e, and soon an Ultra model. The -e model is already being announced separately from the other models, but things are still going to get very busy.

And that’s why insiders believe that during the regular September announcement, we’ll only see the iPhone 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max, and iPhone Ultra. The introduction of the iPhone 18 and 18e will then follow in early 2027. It remains to be seen where the new iPhone Air 2 fits into this new schedule.

Apple’s new release schedule is bad news for competitor Samsung. The South Korean company traditionally announces its new phones at the beginning of the year during an Unpacked event. By announcing new products so close together, undecided buyers may be more likely to choose an iPhone.
