New photos show foldable Apple iPhone Ultra: available only in white?

The wait is long, especially if you're looking forward to Apple's first foldable phone. Fortunately, there are new images of the iPhone Ultra to enjoy. They're something to tide us over until September, when the device may be announced.

We wouldn’t be surprised if Apple pulls this iPhone Ultra out of a hat as a One More Thing during its annual Keynote. Cupertino hasn't managed to keep the device secret. In fact, the device has been leaked so frequently it’s threatening to become Apple’s worst-kept secret.

These new photos certainly add to that. We see the device in pristine white, though we also notice various aluminium parts. For example, the frame appears to be made of aluminium—a material known for its light weight. Apple doesn’t want to release a top-heavy foldable.

iPhone Ultra: Possibly available in 1 colour

Rumours suggest white is the only colour in which the iPhone Ultra will be available. Black was previously mentioned as a possible colour option as well. First-generation iPhones, including the 1st Gen and iPhone X, were also only available in a limited number of colours. Perhaps this is a tribute.

The device in the photos is a dummy, not a real model. At least, we hope so, because we see a huge screen crease. According to rumours, the Apple iPhone Ultra will lack a crease, or have almost none.

Extra-wide screen ratio

Apple hopes to shake up the foldable market with an extra-wide foldable device. Until now, foldables with this design have been very long and narrow. The advantage of such a wide book-style foldable is that when unfolded, you don’t have a square screen but a widescreen. That’s more convenient for watching videos.

Other manufacturers will likely follow soon. Huawei previously released the similar Pura X Max, and Samsung also appears to be planning to release the Fold 8 with this aspect ratio.
