Samsung India announces Galaxy M36 5G; loses big battery
Samsung has announced the Galaxy M36, a 5G smartphone that works with Google's Circle to Search, in India. Altho it is an affordable and relatively simple phone, it unfortunately has a much smaller battery than its predecessor.
Not everyone needs or wants the best of the best—or the highest price tag that comes with it. For that target group, Samsung now offers the Galaxy M36 5G. This affordable model has three cameras on the back: a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilisation (OIS), an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 2MP macro camera.
At the front of the M36 5G we find a 13MP selfie camera that sits at the top in a notch in the 6.7-inch screen. Samsung is phasing out the so-called notch but the M36 5G clearly did not get that memo. The Galaxy M series is known for its large batteries, the one in the M36 5G is not small but it is not overly large either; 5000 mAh.
From 6000 to 5000 mAh
And therein lies immediately the biggest concern we have with the M36. Indeed, its predecessor, the M35, still had an exceptionally large 6000 mAh battery. That was before the era of spacious Silicon-Carbon batteries had arrived which is why we see these types of large batteries more and more often. Not so with the M36 5G, which actually loses out in capacity.
The battery charges quickly with 25W. Samsung delivers the Galaxy M36 5G in three colours; orange, black/grey and green. Besides colour, you can Choose between two memory versions; 6/128GB and 8/256GB. The device comes with Android 15 with One UI 7 on top with six Android updates.
Galaxy M36 in Europe
The Samsung M36 can be ordered in India from July 12 for a temporary low price of converted €165. After the promotional period, that price goes to €230. Whether that will also be the price once the device goes on sale in Europe is still unknown. At the time, the Galaxy M35 came out here for €249.
