Asus is originally a Taiwanese company that made its name by manufacturing motherboards for desktop computers. Later, in addition to computer components, it began manufacturing complete computers, as well as laptops. Its full name is ASUSTeK Computer Inc., but it is sometimes abbreviated to ASUSTeK or ASUS.
Asus history
Asus was founded in 1989 by four former Acer employees. They were working on a motherboard for an Intel processor. In addition to motherboards, they also developed laptops, graphics cards and PDAs.
The first Asus mobile phones rolled off the production line in 2003. The Asus J100 was a flip phone and featured 3G functionality. Smartphones soon followed, particularly those running Windows Mobile. Later, Garmin and Asus jointly launched the Nüvifone under a shared brand name. This partnership came to an end in 2010.
In late 2008, Asus joined the Open Handset Alliance. This consortium was set up to make Android a major force in the mobile phone market. The first Asus smartphone running Android was the PadFone. This 4.3-inch device came with a 10-inch tablet screen into which it could be inserted.
Asus series
Asus has a long history, having ventured into various platforms and designs. Examples include the PadFone series, a smartphone/tablet hybrid, and the P-series comprising Windows Mobile phones. Currently, the range consists of two series;

A penchant for Intel
Asus and Intel have a long history of close collaboration. Whilst the chip manufacturer is a major player in the field of desktop computing, this is not the case for mobile phones. In this sector, manufacturers typically use ARM-based chips because they are more energy-efficient. Nevertheless, in 2015, Asus launched an Android smartphone running on an Intel Atom processor. In addition to this Zenfone 2, versions of the Zenfone 4, Zenfone 5 and Zenfone 6 were also fitted with an Intel Atom processor; after that, Asus would only use Qualcomm processors.
