Buy an Asus Zenfone

The Asus Zenfone built its reputation on compact flagship models: top-of-the-range specs in a phone you can operate with one hand. On this page, you can see which Zenfone smartphones are still available in the Netherlands, both SIM-free and on a contract, along with the current prices from all retailers. Please note: Asus did not release any new phones in 2026, so the range is limited and varies by retailer. If you’re mainly looking for something compact, do also check out compact smartphones. Use the filters for price, screen size and battery life to see immediately what’s still available.

What should you look out for in an Asus Zenfone?

First things first: Asus isn’t releasing any new phones for the time being. In January 2026, the company confirmed that no new Zenfone or ROG Phone would be released that year, and CEO Jonney Shih said shortly afterwards that Asus would not be adding any new phone models in future. Asus does, however, state that software updates and warranty cover for existing devices will continue. So buying a Zenfone is perfectly fine, but bear in mind that there won’t be a successor and that stock in shops is gradually running out. You can see the current prices and stock levels in the overview above.

A compact flagship? That was particularly true of the older models

The Zenfone owes its reputation to the generations that packed a top-of-the-range chip into a small device, at a time when virtually every other flagship was actually getting bigger. This is no longer the case for the latest models: the Zenfone 12 Ultra has a 6.78-inch screen, making it just as big as Samsung’s Ultra models. If you’re really looking for a small phone, take a look at our overview of compact smartphones.

What do you get for your money?

The Zenfone 12 Ultra was released in February 2025 with a recommended retail price starting at 1,099 euros. For that, you get a 6.78-inch AMOLED screen, a Snapdragon 8 Elite chip and a 5,500 mAh battery, plus a range of AI features added by Asus itself. That’s solid flagship-level spec, but the hardware is no longer the latest. So take a close look at the street price and compare it with a newer device in the same class via high-end smartphones or our mobile phone comparison tool.

Who would still be wise to choose a Zenfone?

What are the alternatives?

If stock is running low or you want more choice, these are the logical next steps.

  • Compact smartphones: all the handy handsets from all brands – exactly what the Zenfone was once known for.
  • High-end smartphones: flagship models with comparable specs, but from a brand that continues to release new models.
  • Asus ROG Phones: Asus’s gaming division, with the same caveat regarding new models.
  • Refurbished phones: a checked top-of-the-range model from a generation ago, often hundreds of euros cheaper.

Bear in mind the residual value and accessories

A brand discontinuing its phone range has two practical consequences. Cases, screen protectors and spare parts become harder to find as the models get older, and the trade-in value is usually lower than for a brand with an ongoing range. If that’s a major concern for you, choose a handset from a range that’s still updated annually.
