Low-end smartphones
Need a basic smartphone? If you’d like a smartphone but don’t have high expectations or a big budget, this is the place to start your search. Here, we’ve listed all the so-called low-end smartphones for you; you can filter by features and find prices both with and without a contract.

‘Low-end’ is an English term meaning ‘entry-level’ with a low price. Low-end smartphones are fully-fledged smartphones, albeit stripped-down versions. The price is low, the materials are often basic, and the performance is modest.
Low-end smartphones in the Netherlands
Not every manufacturer releases low-end smartphones. This is because there isn’t much profit to be made in this category and because competition is fierce. In the relatively affluent Netherlands, demand for such phones is also lower than in countries where disposable income is many times lower. It is therefore not uncommon for manufacturers not to release their entry-level models here. Take, for example, smartphones without 4G – these usually bypass our country.
Who are low-end smartphones for?
Low-end smartphones are ideal for beginners. Anyone who has never owned a smartphone before can get to grips with one for relatively little money. For example, a parent can buy a low-end smartphone for their teenager, complete with the necessary parental control features. A low-end smartphone is also the ideal emergency phone or festival phone, thanks to its low price whilst still offering the necessary features.
Who shouldn’t go for a low-end model?
Anyone who finds slow-responding phones annoying, values photography, or can’t stand plastic should definitely steer clear of this category. They’d be better off saving up and looking at mid-range phones. These are often slightly more expensive, although mid-range smartphones that are a year old can be a good alternative.
