Buy the Samsung Galaxy Watch 40mm

Are you looking for a Samsung Galaxy Watch in 40mm? This overview shows all Galaxy watches with the smallest case size: the version that is the lightest and least noticeable under a sleeve. A 40mm watch is more comfortable to wear on a slimmer wrist and at night whilst tracking your sleep, although you’ll have to compromise on screen size and battery capacity. If you’d like to see the full range first, take a look at all Samsung smartwatches. We compare the current prices across all shops, 100% independently. Use the filters for series and connectivity to find the right model straight away.

Will a 40mm Galaxy Watch fit your wrist?

40mm is the smallest case size available from Samsung and the right choice if you have a narrow wrist, want to wear the watch under a shirt sleeve, or sleep in it at night. However, this comes at the expense of screen size and battery capacity, and the difference is greater than the four millimetres might suggest. This page filters by case size, not by series: you’ll therefore see models from different generations side by side, with the current prices shown in the overview above.

Which Galaxy watches are available in 40mm?

The standard Galaxy Watch is always available in two sizes: 40mm and 44mm.

  • Galaxy Watch 9: the latest model (announced in July 2026), in 40mm and 44mm.
  • Galaxy Watch 8 series: the 2025 generation, also available in 40mm and 44mm, and now often significantly reduced in price.
  • Classic and Ultra versions: these are not available in 40mm. If you want a rotating bezel or an extra-robust case, you’ll automatically end up with a larger size.

What you’re giving up: screen size, battery life and weight

With the Galaxy Watch 8, the difference is quite tangible. The 40mm has a 1.3-inch screen, the 44mm a 1.5-inch screen: on the smaller case, you see noticeably less text per message and find yourself scrolling more often. The battery capacity is 325 mAh compared to 435 mAh – roughly a quarter less – which means you’ll need to charge it more often. On the other hand, the 40mm model weighs 30 grams and the 44mm model 34 grams; you’ll notice this most when you sleep whilst wearing the watch.

With the Galaxy Watch 9, that gap has narrowed: the 40mm model now has a 390 mAh battery, compared to 325 mAh in the 40mm version of the Watch 8. If you want a small watch and as few charging sessions as possible, that’s the main reason to opt for the latest generation rather than a discounted previous model.

When it’s better to go for the 44mm

Opt for the larger size if you mainly use the watch to read and reply to messages, if you want to see your pace and heart rate at a glance whilst running or cycling, or if you need glasses to read small print. Anyone who wants a fully-featured watch that can last a long weekend without a charger is also better off choosing the larger size. A 40mm case is a conscious choice for comfort and discretion, not a cheap compromise.

Please note: a Galaxy Watch only works with Android

Samsung watches do not pair with an iPhone. If you use iOS, then the Apple smartwatches are the logical choice, with the is available in 40mm and 44mm, so the same size considerations apply. If, on the other hand, you’re looking for a watch that lasts for days or even weeks without charging, then Garmin is worth considering; you’ll, however, be sacrificing the convenience of the Samsung and Google apps.
