Apple announces renewed yet familiar iPhone SE (2020)

As expected, Apple today announced a new iPhone. The renewed iPhone SE has just been placed on its website. It is an iPhone with a familiar appearance including large bezels above the display but still with some much-needed innovations on the inside.

Rumors about a remake of the iPhone SE had been going on for some time; a semi-cheap iPhone with familiar looks and fingerprint scanner. The iPhone SE 2020 is more or less the successor to the iPhone 8 from 2017 but with a more powerful Apple A13 Bionic processor.

The iPhone SE (2020) features a relative compact screen of 4.7 inches. Those who had hoped for smaller are in no luck; you will now really have to switch to something bigger. The Retina HD display supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision, so the display has some accurate color reproduction. Unlocking goes old-fashioned with your fingerprint. Face ID is missing. Both front and back are made of glass, so you can charge the SE 2020 wirelessly. Wired fast charging is also possible.

Powerful A13 Bionic

Inside, the Apple iPhone SE (2020) is quite modern. This is mainly due to the A13 Bionic processor. That is the same chip as in the iPhone 11, 11 Pro and even the 11 Pro Max. So gaming will be just as smooth. All that raw power is also used for the camera. The device has a single camera with 12 megapixel sensor and f/1.8 lens. Via machine learning, it still does portrait mode and depth recognition.

Apple puts the iPhone SE 2020 on sale for $399 and is available in Black, White and PRODUCT(RED). Pre-ordering starts Friday April 17th, after which first shipments will be delivered a week later on April 24th. Until then, you can think about whether you want 64, 128 or 256 GB of storage.
