What should you look out for when choosing a foldable Honor Magic V?

With a book-style design, it all comes down to whether you’ll actually make use of that extra screen size. The Magic V6 unfolds into a 7.95-inch AMOLED screen and, when folded, has a 6.52-inch outer screen, so you get a regular phone and a small tablet in one. That comes at a price: foldables are the most expensive phones on the market. You can see the current models and prices in the overview above.

Not sure if a foldable is right for you? First, compare it side-by-side with a standard high-end smartphone in our mobile phone comparison tool.

Thin and light, but not unbreakable

Honor focuses primarily on size. When folded, the Magic V6 is 8.75 mm thick and weighs 219 grams, roughly the same as a large, non-foldable top-of-the-range handset. However, a foldable screen remains more fragile than glass: the inner screen is made of plastic, scratches more easily and retains a visible crease down the middle. Moreover, screen repairs are considerably more expensive on a foldable. If you use your phone a lot outdoors, where it’s exposed to sand, dust or falling objects, you’d be better off looking at robust phones.

Battery life is no longer a weak point

The Magic V6 has a 6,500 mAh battery with silicon-carbon technology, charging at 80 watts via cable and 66 watts wirelessly. A battery like this stores more energy in the same space, meaning a slim foldable device can still last a whole day. For years, this was the biggest objection to foldables; that argument has largely been rendered obsolete.

What you pay and when you buy

The Magic V6 was launched in Europe in July 2026. In Germany, it was priced at just over 2,000 euros, with a launch discount of 600 euros. So expect to pay more than double the price of a standard flagship model. For many people, the previous generation is the smarter buy: the Magic V5 has been available in the Netherlands for some time and is now considerably cheaper. If, on the other hand, you’re looking for a compact foldable phone that folds up into a small square, take a look at the clamshell models.

When a Magic V isn’t the right choice

A foldable is a conscious choice based on screen size. These alternatives are the obvious choice if that isn’t your priority.
