What should you look out for in a mobile phone costing up to 350 euros?
In 2026, for 350 euros, you can buy a mid-range phone with a 120Hz OLED screen, a 5000 mAh battery or larger, fast charging from 68 to 100 watts and, increasingly, a separate telephoto lens for optical zoom. This is the first price bracket where you’ll find features not available in lower price ranges. Full water resistance (IP68) and seven years of software updates are not usually included at this price point; these typically start at around 400 to 500 euros. Not sure what sort of phone you’re looking for? Our selection guide will help you get started in three steps.
What you get here in addition to the under-250-euro range
The difference compared to phones up to 250 euros lies mainly in four things:
- A proper telephoto lens: optical zoom keeps portraits and distant shots sharp, whilst digital zoom simply crops the image and sacrifices detail.
- More processing power: demanding games run smoothly, and the device will still feel snappy in three years’ time.
- Fast charging up to 100 watts: from empty to full in about half an hour instead of just over an hour.
- Better protection: protection against dust and splashes is standard here, but resistance to submersion (IP68) is not yet available.
Pay attention to the update policy, as this varies the most here
In this price range, the promises vary widely: one device gets three major Android versions, another six years of security updates. Since 20 June 2025, five years has been the legal minimum in the EU (EU Regulation), but the difference between that minimum and the best-supported devices can easily amount to an extra two years’ lifespan. With a purchase of 350 euros, that really adds up. So be sure to check the support period on the specifications page before you order.
A new mid-range model or a refurbished flagship?
For 350 euros, you can also buy a flagship model that’s two or three years old, professionally inspected and with a warranty. This gives you a better camera, a more robust screen and a faster processor than a new mid-range model. On the other hand, the remaining update period is shorter and the battery has already undergone several charge cycles.
Choose a new mid-range model if you want to keep the device for four years or more and updates and warranty are key considerations.
Choose a refurbished flagship if the camera and screen are your top priorities and you’re happy to accept a shorter support period.
If you’re looking for an iPhone within this budget, your only option is second-hand: even the cheapest iPhone costs more when new. In that case, have a look at refurbished iPhones.
Where do you cut corners in this category?
On the features not listed on the packaging. The wide-angle camera is clearly inferior to the main camera, wireless charging is often missing, and the casing is usually made of plastic rather than glass or metal. Also, the processor isn’t powerful enough to run the most demanding games on the highest settings for years on end. If that’s what you’re after, have a look at high-end smartphones; if you don’t need it, this price range offers the best value for money.
